State VVA Council Pow/MIA Weekend

The State Vietnam Veterans Council will hold their quarterly meeting at the Hilton and Towers in Downtown Harrisburg the weekend of 16,17,18 September. Chapter 542 will host this meeting as well as staging a POW MIA recognition weekend in Harrisburg. On Friday the 16th of September we will land a UH-1 Helicopter on City Island thanks to the support of Maj General Jessica Wright the Adjutant General Of Pennsylvania, and the Mayor of Harrisburg Stephen Reed. The aircraft will be towed to the front of the Hilton and Towers. The aircraft will remain there throughout the weekend. On Friday at noon noted book author Bob Dorr, author of 29 books will sign copies of his newest book, "The History Of Helicopters In Combat at the B Dalton Book Store in Strawberry Square. Friday evening our chapter will host the delegates to a night on the town in downtown Harrisburg. Saturday during the day will be the state meetings while author Dorr will again conduct book signings, this time by the UH-1 Aircraft at noon.

Saturday evening at 1800 there will be a ceremony by the aircraft where the names of the Pennsylvania Missing In Action will be read and their memory will be honored. At 1900 there will be a presentation by Col (Ret) Ward B. Nickish on the recovery and other issues dealing with the POW/MIA story. This presentation will be open to the general public. Remember one of our own chapter members Navy Cpt(Ret) Ed Davis spent over 7 years in North Vietnam as a POW.

It promises to be a great weekend in Downtown Harrisburg--- SEE YOU THERE!
