VVA 542 To Receive Its Own UH-1 Flyable Huey

VVA 542 has received word that the paper work has been forwarded to receive from the Pa. Army National Guard a flyable UH-1 Huey that was due to be mothballed. The chapter has several members who are still employed as mechanics with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap and are also licensed A&P mechanics, and have volunteered to work on our aircraft. Also the chapter has several former UH-1 Instructor Pilots all with several thousand hours in the Huey. Included in those that have volunteered to fly our aircraft are BG (Ret) Cecil Hengeveld, CW4 (Ret) Gerry Burton, CW5 (Ret) Gerry Hess, CW5 (Ret) Don Beatty, CW5(Ret) John Travers, and CW4 (Ret) John Calaman.

Thanks to Harrisburg Jet Center we will have hanger space at Capitol City Airport, and plan to have a ceremony when the aircraft is turned over to the chapter. We plan to make the aircraft available to other veteran organizations for events and also to provide it to the city of Harrisburg and surrounding communities for civic events. Delivery is hopefully to happen within the year. Stay tuned for more information.
